What Can I
Do to Help End Homelessness ?
v Volunteer time and resources to a local organization working to end homelessness (links to various orgs working to end homelessness who need volunteers).
v Work with an organization to sponsor someone coming out of homelessness, to pay rent, partial rent, or utilities.
v Donate funds to help end homelessness (single point of donation- Associated Ministries?).
v Contact your city/county council, and state and federal legislators to urge them to support programs working to end homelessness and for living wages for all (links to help people learn who represents their districts).
v Welcome individuals leaving homelessness into your community- your church, your neighborhood.
v Volunteer for the annual Project Homeless Connect (link to page with information on PHC).
v Volunteer to assist with the annual Homeless Count/Survey.
v Donate food/clothing/hygiene items (link to Healthcare for the Homeless, Nativity House, Hospitality Kitchen, PHC, Homeless Count/Survey).
v Volunteer as a community representative to review grant applications submitted through Pierce County’s Continuum of Care process.
v Help family and friends who you know are struggling to make ends meet before it becomes a crisis of homelessness.
v Treat those experiencing homelessness with respect.
v Work with your church or service organization to support a landlord who is willing to rent to people formerly experiencing homelessness.
v Provide life coaching/mentoring in partnership with service provider to an individual transitioning into permanent housing.
v Provide administrative or classroom space for housing and service providers.
v Make “welcome kits” with everyday household basics for people moving from homelessness to housing; donate to an agency of your choice.
